The Silence of Deafness is an Abstract, not an Absolute.
Project owner: N. (hohprof)
Project Description: The responses to music of so many people with varying degrees of deafness is such that it seems worth getting something into print on the subject. Originally the idea came from a brilliant book called “The World Through Blunted Sight” which considered the visual impairments of artists. With music my idea (very much becoming ‘our’ idea) is for a multi-author volume about mostly the experiences of the contributors themselves.
However, this is at the moment a very embryonic idea, and I think it’s worth considering the kind of areas that might or must be worth covering. Personally I’d like this to be quite a positive book - we have different ways or hearing music, but exploring the musical intelligence and instincts of deaf people is a fascinating area to which it would be good to bring some method.
Where to begin?
• Personal accounts/experiences - plenty of scope here I think
• Deaf/hoh musical performers and composers
• ‘Inner’ hearing - high-level musical skills in deaf musicians
• Environmental deafness
• Deaf musical events (DeafRave etc.)
• Deaf/hoh music students?
• Mapping of objective audiometrics and subjective listening
• Hearing aid design and musical listening
And so on…
All ideas gratefully received!

Whether you wear one or two hearing aids depends on whether or not your hearing is bad in both ears; if not then it is possible that your doctor will recommend you to only wear one. With the different changes in the hearing aid devices it is now possible to wear a hearing aid without anyone knowing.

Hi,
Could you tell me how or why I can often hear a ringing sound. It is high in pitch. And often occurs when I am close to someone wearing a hearing aid. I can hear my ministers hearing aid. Also various other people around.
Thanks,
Todd
