Deaf Creative Professionals..

by @ 10:43 am. Filed under Misc

Since creative professionals are advised to ‘cold call’, why would this be necessary in the age of the internet? I’m aware clients don’t find it amusing and prefer email or postal mail (ie. promotionals) to be informed of the professional’s services.

If this was the way to promote ourselves, would’nt a website, by word of mouth and simple use of flyers and/or ads in mass market magazines do the trick for deaf illustrators? I ask because I’m trying to figure out how to get out there more often into the field of storyboarding and visual storytelling media in print (novels, sequential graphic tales, and such).

I know Boston and Montreal are the closest art “meccas” to Burlington, VT and have not gone to those places yet…and imagine there are more deaf people in those spots, perhaps, involved in the creative industry.

In a way, I miss life in Cleveland because their art scene seemed to be more courageous and on the cutting edge while a small town such as Burlington may have this whimpering attitude without having the balls to push the envelope. I cannot stand the “barnyard on a landscape” piece that can be usually prevalent on rural states.

yeah well, if buisness’ were actually equal oppertunity employers like they say they are, then there wouldnt be a problem!! Im hoping to do a Honerery Degree in teaching as my final year to teach art, and I was told only yesterday by one of the course tutors that another deaf girl on the corse was met with resistant by the Board of Education here…Im now shitting it, pardon the phrase, but teaching is all iv ever wanted to do and I dont even know now if ill be accepted onto the corse because of my hearing….

    Lette,

My blackberry had a blackout from the crash this morning as I tried to reply back so in starting over, I want to say that those people in the Board of Education should be kissing your arse. You have every right to teach and with your disability, the other creatives who have that loss will have a better chance of understanding you.
You could do your creative work full-time and tutor/teach to others in our subculture on the side?

Unfortunately, those who don’t give us equal opportunities need to be dealt with harshly and face the Order of the Knights of Silence!
