A deaf Study by a Proffessor…

by @ 1:21 pm. Filed under Sounds, Thoughts, Accessibility

There was a recent post here on Somewhatsilent, that I replied to, she wanted us to give our ‘deaf/Deaf/HOH opinion’ on music, and a particular subject she is studying, I desided to write to her and she responded with this,’

I am interested in the deaf person’s perspective on various aspects of music.  Much of what is written on the subject is by hearing persons, and I believe it is important to get the deaf person’s perspective.  Polish Artist Artur Zmijewski has created a video work of deaf teenagers as they learn to sing choral music by Bach.  In response to this idea, would you please answer the question below?
When I get your response (please send to alifsu@mac.com), I will direct you to a website to view a video of the deaf teens singing Bach.  The video is just a little over a minute in length.  After viewing the video and reading the accompanying article, I would like you to answer the same question again, and add any comments you would like to make about the video or article.  The question is not a trick question and there is no wrong answer.  It is just your opinion.  THANKS!
Question:
Getting deaf teens to sing Bach is:
(a) Exploitative and voyeuristic (to use selfishly for one’s own gain, outside observer of something sensational).
(b) Culturally inclusive and respectful.
(c) A celebration of failure and chaos / confusion.
(d) A celebration of determination and hope.
(e) Art
My answer is letter _______ .

So I responded with my honest answer and she gave me the link to the video, which was very interesting, thing is, I said id help her get more responces through here. She is a proffessof and Deaf studdies are her speciality so to speak, so it is a genuine study and she and I would appreciate if you would respond to her, at the above email address and she will forward the link of the video to you also where you write back again if you have changed your mind on the answer, either way, help her out :) Thanks guys :)
