The Silence of Deafness is an Abstract, not an Absolute.
Hey all,
I found this link to a site at: http://www.no-spec.com/. This is for those who are involved in the creative/design industry and are against the use of speculative work by clients and I urge you to empower yourselves with this knowledge which has become a prevalent issue among a lot of people such as I.
I also just got a full-time job interview last week at a publishing house in Vermont which is entry level, so we’ll see if I make it to round 2 this week and this company is independently owned with a nice view of the mountains and lake. I’m still trying to figure out the signs or signals that the guy might have decided to go with me for round 2.
But I have to ask..is it normal for an interviewer to reveal the actual salary during the interview since I just estimated the salary requirements on my resume? He even brought up the mention of benefits and perks. I thought interviewees were’nt supposed to ask about them until after the interview or until after they get hired.
Maybe he’s revealing this information to me because I’m the likeliest candidate?
But I’m going to play it by ear and see how it goes this week.

Well, Sign Language is finished now till September, and im at a loss as to what to do! sounds silly, but im afraid of forgetting it, I have 10 weeks done, and its amazing just how much I learned in that time!
In college it handy in the sence that Adrian is there and I can sign to him, but its not an everyday occurance, and Keith, my better half, wants to learn and I cant wait to show him, but we never seem to get around to it!!
There is nobody I can get to do classes with me over the summer, although Susan my lecturer seems adament to meet up with me and practice which is great if it happens, she is very busy most of the time, and sometimes i wonder if we will ever actually meet up over the summer, but i guess ill see!
My hearing aids are going ok, but its strange as they amplify everything including background noise, I still cant hear the person im talking to, its very confusing. But I have learnt, strangely enough, ? the value of the quietness that is my hearing loss, at the end of a long day of concentrating and using the hearing aids, turning them off is really nice
Hello everyone. I want to say once more that I am profusely happy I found this site. It felt like finding my kith and kin.
I am from the Philippines where English is just a second language so you will have to check my peculiar English from time to time. I began losing my hearing when I was five years old. I can still remember the first time I heard ringing in my ears. It was a summer afternoon and I was gathering tamarind fruits that fell to the ground. I told my mother about the ringing sound but she didn’t understand what I was talking about. Of course we know it is tinnitus a sign of hearing loss. I have ambivalent feelings about my disability. Most of the time I’m depressed. I just console myself with the fact that I belong to a group which modern science and medicine call special person.
I am young once and was a former teacher like prof.
I’m a 50 year old male living in Toronto, Ontario.
Last October while on the golf course my left hear suddenly “closed up” as if plugged by water. Applying my profoundly intelligent attitude of “if it doesn’t clear up in a week or so, I’ll see about it”, I went to my GP who put me on antibiotics for a week. With no response, he set me up with an ENT which took another 4 weeks.
Long story short, I’m now starting to research the BAHA option and would really apprciate any feedback on the following:
1. Any life style changes (I HATE that term) required? i.e. swimming, showers or athletic persuit limitations? (Will it help cure my slice?)
2. Could I expect any improvement with directional location?
3. Any particular maintence required on the external abutment or processor?
Generally, has it been worth the effort?
Thanks
I have a date for receiving bilateral BAHAs. 21st July in the day surgery unit of Hope Hospital in Manchester.? I only gave the go ahead in 29th March, so they must be trying to spend some money or something for the waiting list to be that short!
I don’t know what type of BAHA I’ll receive approx 3-4 months after the surgery because there may be some funding shenanigans about who pays for the new BAHA as Manchester only do my ENT not my audiology.? The very nice audiologist at the Sheffield Hallamshire said she’ll look into it and see if she can get it sorted for me.? I will be sending her a letter tomorrow to let her know that I have a date.
Now all I need to do is see how we can make sure the implants are symmetrical, as that is something I care about - if I’m going to tuck my hair behind them like ears!? I am planning on DPAing (accessing my medical notes under the data protection act 1999) the CAT scan report from 2001 as it details exactly what I probably do and don’t have in each of my ears.? The nice chatty registrar told me on 29th March, but I have a shite auditory memory and can’t remember exactly what she said - I may also try and get hold of some of the imagery, as that would be teh cool!
