The Silence of Deafness is an Abstract, not an Absolute.
Why now? The day before the semester starts properly, I’ve got some nasty infection thing in my outer ears which means I can’t actually put my hearing aids in without a lot of pain and considerable annoyance. This is bad. Tomorrow I meet all our new students, and particularly the ones I will be advising for the next three years. Thus, tomorrow I shall be in pain, as I will have to wear my hearing aids, even if it’s only for an hour or so. And as I’ve just discovered, that is not easy at the moment.
I’m posting about this here only because I’m pretty sure every single other person on this forum will have had exactly this happen at some time or other. And it feels sore, and I’m feeling sorry for myself.

Ouch! I haven’t had ear infections, I don’t seem to be too prone to them thankfully. I am, however, extremely prone to earwax which will quickly build up to the point where inserting hearing aids makes my eardrums feel like they’re going to rupture. :p
My problem is easily enough solved by dripping warm sesame seed oil into my ear, and “stimulating it” by cupping my hand over my ear and tapping it.
Sorry I don’t have a similar solution for your infection.

I’ve been relatively free of ear nasties recently, which makes the timing of this one particularly irritating. Yes, I get major wax issues too – and like you, a bit of oil and stuff usually does the trick (so long as I don’t get impatient and try “stimulating” a bit too enthusiastically with a cotton bud
)

Sesame oil works particularly well.
Other oils tend to make the problem worse in the long run.
And yeah, cotton buds are bad. hehe
Me- I try to dig it out with my finger sometimes. :p I should get a “loop”, or something.
